Reef Report: July 18th - Islamorada with Key Dives

Dive 1: Alligator reef, seas <1', vis. 80', no current, depth 20'.  Water temp 86 degrees.  Sightings include clouds of silversides, jack, grouper, and yellow tail feeding on them, numerous cudas, soldier fish, Margates, 
Dive 2: Morada reef, seas <1', vis. 60', no current, depth 20', water temp 86 degrees. Sightings include a mother stingray with baby, sharks, purple soft corals, corkscrew anemonies, Peterson shrimp.

Get Ready for Night Diving 101 on September 12!

It's fun, it's easy, and it's FREE!!! The cost of the dive includes instruction. 

Join ADA on its next, and last of the season, night dive Sept 12. Some divers hesitate to night dive because of a natural fear of the unknown, mis-understandings, lack of knowledge, and misconceptions from media sensationalism. But after a thorough ADA instruction and orientation night diving mini-course, followed by a safe but exciting night dive, the vast majority of novice night divers are eager to go again. 

All the basics of night diving will be outlined and discussed including dive lights, underwater communication, hand signals, diving differences day vs. night, natural stressors, equipment requirements, and site selection. 

Are you ready to break through and try your first night dive? Call Lon at 305-251-4975 to reserve the September 12th night dive. Better yet, make a day of it with the afternoon dive, have a bite then stay on for Night Diving 101!

Fort Lauderdale
Great diving closer to home.

Sunday, July 26th: The reef system is comprised of three bands that run parallel to the shore ranging from 15 feet to 100 feet deep. Currents tend to be mild on the shallow reefs but can get strong on the deeper sites. Lots of wonderful marine life including many tropical fish, and the occasional grouper, nurse shark and ray. Check in at American Dream at noon.

South Miami Beach

Saturday, August 1st: Enjoy spectacular reefs close to home that living elkhorn and pillar coral, a variety of sponges, and schools of juvenile tropicals. The clarity and color of the water makes this a spectacular snorkel or dive location. Meet at Deco Divers at the Miami Beach Marina, 300 Alton Road at noon.

Spiegel Grove + BBQ!

Saturday, August 8th: Come experience the big one! This retired Navy transport ship was intentionally sunk  in order to create the backbone of a new coral-reef ecosystem. The Spiegel Grove is one of the largest ships ever sunk for this purpose. Advanced criterion applies.Check in at Florida Keys Dive Center at noon.

North Tavernier
Beautiful reefs, beautiful conditions.

Sunday, August 16th: Yes, after 36 years (1978) Capt's Slates has moved to a new location you will love even more at Mile Marker 90.7 in Tavernier. Along with this comes 25 new beautiful dive sites to explore with many morays, schooling tropicals, turtles, and the occasional spotted eagle ray. Check in at the new Capt. Slates in Tavernier at 12:00 p.m.
