Reef Report #1 - July 22nd
Looe Key Reef Resort and Dive Center

Pre-Dive - On the way out to the reef we stopped to observe a pod of dolphins frolicking in the aqua blue water. The captain pulled alongside so we could observe them.

Dive 1 - Looe Key National Marine Sanctuary Ball 16 "Junior". Named for the friendly Goliath Grouper that hangs around the boat on this dive site. Seas 1 foot, visibility 60 ft, depth 28 ft, water temp 87 degrees, no current. On the reef we saw schooling Atlantic spadefish, Spanish lobster, large fluorescent parrotfish, porkfish, hog snapper and numerous smooth trunkfish.

Dive 2 - Looe Key National Marine Sanctuary Ball 10. Seas 1 foot, visibility 50 ft., depth 27 ft, water temp 87 degrees, no current. Towering stands of pillar and elkhorn coral, two large free swimming Caribbean reef sharks, schooling grunts and yellowtails, french angelfish, sergeant majors, smooth trunkfish.

Reef Report #2 - July 23rd
Vandenburg Wreck in Key West with Lost Reef Adventures

Dive 1 - Vandenburg wreck ball #4. Seas 2 feet, visibility 50 ft, depth 100 ft, water temp 84 degrees, mild current. Good coral encrustation, numerous large barracudas, schooling Bermuda chubs, crevalle jack, schooling brown chromis.

Dive 2 - Vandenburg wreck ball #4 Seas 2 feet, visibility 50 ft, depth 100 ft, significant thermocline at 75 feet with water temp 87 above and 82 degrees below, moderate current. The current running bow to stern picked up as the dive progressed. Crawl to the bow into the current was a workout but the free ride back 2/3 of the length of the ship was exhilarating. Interesting rooms to explore such as the cut-out navigation bridge.
