Reef Report

August 16th - Duane Wreck with Florida Keys Dive Center

Dive 1. Due to strong currents, the Duane dive was changed to Capt. Tom's Ledge. Depth 55', visibility 30', water temp. 87 degrees, seas 1-2, current very slight. Sightings included a 300 lb. loggerhead turtle, juvenile queen angel, french angels, but the usual 2000 snapper and grunts were on vacation elsewhere.

Dive 2, Pete's reef. Depth 20', visibility 30', water temp. 89 degrees, seas 1'.
Reef was alive with many schooling grunt and tropicals. Hard corals abundant and healthy, extensive soft corals. One diver reported water temp. at 91 degrees. A leisurely and relaxing dive with no current.

North Tavernier

Sunday, August 24th: Yes, after 36 years (1978) Capt's Slates has moved to a new location you will love even more at Mile Marker 90.7 in Tavernier. Along with this comes 25 new beautiful dive sites to explore with many morays, schooling tropicals, turtles, and the occasional spotted eagle ray. Check in at the new Capt. Slates in Tavernier at 12:00 p.m.

Boca Raton

Saturday, August 30th: - Drift dive over beautiful reefs home to Goliath Groupers, eels, stingrays, nurse sharks and hundreds of other fish. Clear warm water and healthy reefs make this a great choice. Check in at American Dream at 12:00 noon.

Sunday, September 7th: Experience the clear water and abundant marine life of Islamorada, just 4 miles past Tavernier. Here we'll find many colorful tropical fish and other wonderful sea creatures. Meet at Key Dives at Bud & Mary's Marina noon.

Sunday, September 14th: Check out the new Capt. Slates with such great sites as Molasses Reef, Conch Wall, Davis Ledge, Horseshoe and Hens & Chickens. Then kick back and relax for a delicious BBQ with your dive buddies. Check in at the new Capt. Slates in Tavernier at 12:00 p.m.
