Reef Report

North Tavernier with
Capt. Slate's

Dive 1  – Spanky's Reef: Seas 1-2 ', depth 30', vis 30', water temp. 80 degrees, slight current. This is the site for Slate's Creature Feature animal feed. 6 or 7 medium sized nurse sharks greeted us with close encounters, bumping our fins, while cruising by with expectations of a free meal. Roger Bach seemed to present something appealing as several settled just below his BC.  Is Roger our shark whisperer?

Dive 2 – French Reef: Seas 1', depth 25', vis 40', water temp 80 degrees, slight current. Sightings include sharks, golden eels, moray eels, the most massive school of goat fish ever seen, pork fish, schooling blue striped grunts, snappers, and a multitude of small tropical fish.

TRAFFIC ALERT

22 miles of Turnpike construction is underway in south Miami-Dade County. Expect slow downs, delays, hazardous driving conditions, and plan accordingly when traveling to our dives in the Florida Keys. This project is anticipated to last for several months. Friendly reminder - for the safety of all concerned, our rules require all divers to be present for the entire pre-dive briefing. Failure to do so could result in being excluded from the Active Divers group for that dive. Please plan ahead and allow plenty of travel time so you're not the diver showing up late.
