Diving
in the Age of Covid Update
It's official that the checkpoint at Florida
City will be lifted and visitors will be
allowed back to the Keys on June 1st! The Blue
Heron Bridge is open for diving from dawn to
dusk (no night diving yet) and dive boats are
currently running with reduced capacity from
Jupiter to Miami.
North of the Keys, capacity on the dive boats
is restricted to 8 passengers. Because of
reduced capacity, our dives are filling up
quickly and additional space is extremely
limited. When the Keys opens to visitors,
boats will be limited to 12 divers. These
numbers may increase as the season progresses.
Special restrictions have been put into place
on dive boats due to COVID-19 until further
notice. On all dives, members must use a face
covering (mask) in place at all times, except
when using a regulator. Dive boat capacity is
limited to facilitate a minimum of six feet of
distance between divers. Social distancing
will be expected at all times, on boats and on
beach-entry dives. Personal hand sanitizing
products or gloves must be used. Following
these procedures, all can enjoy a safe and fun
dive.
We look forward to seeing you on a future
dive! |

What
is the Active Divers Sea Turtle Dive?
Florida has the greatest abundance of
nesting loggerhead sea turtles in the world,
and the height of nesting season is during
the months of June and July. This video was
taken in Jupiter, an important site for
loggerheads, on last year's Sea Turtle Dive.
We saw about 20 loggerheads, mostly females
during this dive. Numerous turtles rest
nearshore atop Loggerhead Reef, waiting for
nightfall to go up onto the beach to nest
and lay eggs. This special dive will sell
out quickly, so book early!
