Reef Report
Copenhagen Wreck and Nursery with South Florida Diving Headquarters

Sunday, May 26

Dive 1: Seas 1-2', depth 30', vis 80', water temp 84 degrees, slight north running current.  A gentle drift dive exploring the Copenhagen wreck, a Florida Underwater Archaeological Preserve.  Divers explored the wreck, noting the anchor then continued on with some parrot fish and other fish sightings on the wreck. Drifting north with the current, morays, a nurse shark, and a lobster were spotted on Pompano Ledge.

Dive 2: Nursery, Seas 2', depth 29', vis 60-70', water temp 84 degrees, north running current.  Another gentle drift dive on the ledge.  In addition to the many native reef fish who inhabit the ledge, Jean spotted and took some excellent photos of puffer fish, goldentail moray, smooth trunk, spotted moray, and lizard fish.  We were treated to various species of coral along the ledge.  The seas picked up the last half of the dive, but all made it safely aboard the boat and back to the dock after an enjoyable afternoon.

International Travel News

Active Divers is constantly looking for new international locations that offer great diving with comfortable accommodations at a compelling value. To that end, our International Dive Trip Directors Dan Baeza and Daryl Johnson just came back from an exploratory trip to Dominica, a new travel destination for the dive club. With major rebuilding having taken place since 2017, the island of Dominica fits the criteria for an upcoming club trip. Details are still being finalized and will be communicated once complete, but for right now mark your calendars for a May 2025 date to begin the season. Full details regarding the recent exploratory trip can be found by clicking here.

Also, additional spots have opened up for the upcoming July 20 to July 27 Little Cayman trip. Moreover, there is an additional $150 rebate payable upon arrival. There is a spot for a single male sharing a room and potential additional rooms. For full information please click here and if interested act now and please send an e-mail to diverdaryl@bellsouth.net.

Dive Against Debris on Saturday, June 8
Be part of the world’s largest underwater community science movement by joining us for Dive Against Debris, a program from the PADI AWARE Foundation. Your participation will help the organization create a blueprint to achieve their critical conservation goal to reduce marine debris by 50% in targeted countries by 2030. Our Dive Against Debris will take place at the Blue Heron Bridge in which you will learn tips for debris collection and collect debris at the Bridge dive site. After the dive all participants will bring their debris to our pavilion where it will be weighed, surveyed and discarded. Our marine debris survey will be added to PADI’s database of over 2.3 million pieces of marine debris already removed from the ocean, contributing to their critical scientific research that advances the PADI Blueprint for Ocean Action.

Participation in this fun event is free of charge and will be followed by a BBQ. There will be prizes awarded for largest item, heaviest item, most unusual item and more. All you need to participate is your gear, air tank, and a mesh bag to collect debris. You can also earn the PADI Dive Against Debris Diver Specialty Certification for an additional fee which counts toward the Advanced Open Water and Master Scuba Diver Certifications.
