North Tavernier with Capt. Slates
Dive 1: Davis
Ledge. Seas 1', depth 25', vis 60', slight
current, water temp 83
degrees. Sightings include several
Moray eels, Horse conch devouring queen
conch, soldier fish, trumpet fish,
schooling yellowtail and porkfish, goat
fish. No appreciable hurricane damage.
Dive 2: Spanky's
Reef. Seas 1-2', depth 25', vis 40',
slight current. This reef is the location
for Capt. Slate's famous Creature Feature
where he feeds and hugs sharks, eels, etc.
Sightings include 5 or 6 nurse sharks
ranging in size from 4-7' who were sure we
had food. They circled and occasionally
swam between us. One diver even
inadvertently bumped a shark's nose with
his fin. They followed us throughout the
dive. Also flamingo tongues, star fish and
the
usual assortment of tropical fish were
seen. No hurricane damage on this
reef. |
