Reports - A Superb Weekend of
Diving
Key Largo with Amoray Dive
Resort
Saturday, June 25 - Morning Dive
Our fabulous Key Largo diving weekend
was so popular that we had to split
this dive into two boat trips -
morning and afternoon.
Dive 1: Hannah M. Belle Wreck
- Elbow Reef -
seas less than 1 foot, depth 25, water
temp 84, viz 40, mild current. This
wreck is old and interesting - harbors
lots of fish in the nooks and
crannies.
Dive 2: Anchor Wreck - Elbow
Reef -
seas 1 foot, depth 20, water temp 84,
viz 50, strong current. Crawling along
in the ripping current, we didn't want
to get too far from the boat. However,
the current brought in delights such
as spotted eagle rays and a small
green turtle. There were tons of fish
in all shapes and sizes, but the most
spectacular thing of all was endless
stands of healthy elkhorn coral atop
the fingers. Very impressive sight!

Key
Largo with Amoray Dive Resort
Sunday, June 26 - Afternoon Dive
Dive 1: Horseshoe Reef - Viz
~ 30 ft, water temp 86, current
moderate, seas less than 1 ft
Dive 2: North North Dry Rocks
- Viz ~ 30-40 ft,
water temp 86, current moderate, seas
less than 1 ft
What a beautiful day for a dive! The
current made for some good exercise on
the first dive, and the group was
treated to a calm drift back to the
boat. We spotted several of the usual
tropical suspects; parrot fish,
trumpet fish, schools of grunts and
snappers and a few cute little trunk
fish.
The finger reef on the second dive
gave the divers some protection from
the current, and also provided for
some fun explorations leading to a
small swim through towards the end of
the dive. We spotted several very
large midnight parrot fish, a couple
of moray eels, and a few beautiful
queen angels.
The warm water was a treat and the
group had a great dive!

Capt.
Slate's Creature Feature
Sunday, June 26
Capt. Slate wasn't available to do his
usual show, but his crew stepped up
admirably to provide a great
experience for our Active
Divers.
Dive 1: Davis Ledge -
seas around 1 foot, depth 27, water
temp 84, viz 50, mild current. This
ledge is always a fun dive and today
there was an incredible amount of
marine life on it including a large
southern stingray, small golden eel
and huge clouds of fish.
Dive 2: Spanky's Reef -
seas 1 foot, depth 22, water temp 84,
viz 50, no current. This was the fun
shark dive we had all been waiting
for. There were dozens of sharks all
around us and we very much enjoyed
swimming with them close up. In
addition to all the sharks there was
very nice coral and lots of marine
life on this reef.
