South Tavernier with Florida Keys Dive
Center
Dive
1: Molasses Reef - Aquarium. Depth 30 feet, viz 80
feet, water temp 87! The water was
incredibly clear. The coral is still
recovering from Irma, but the reef is full
of critters galore! Sightings include
large free-swimming nurse shark, midnight
parrotfish, numerous lobsters, queen
conch, large schools of yellowtails and
grunts.
Dive
2: Molasses Reef - Eagle Ray Alley. Depth 27 feet, viz 70
feet, water temp 86 degrees. Also
incredibly clear. Sightings include nurse
shark, many lobsters, many parrotfish,
goatfish, French angelfish, scorpionfish,
large schools of sergeant majors.
Dive
3: Night Dive - Davis Ledge. Depth 26 feet, water temp
86 degrees. Also incredibly clear.
Sightings include Buddha statue (we all
rubbed his belly for good luck!) two large
green moray eels side by side looking like
a two-headed monster, two crabs side by
side (one in attack mode), sub-adult green
turtle, too many lobsters to count (enjoy
it while you can because mini-season is
only three weeks away), including several
spotted Spanish lobsters, parrotfish
slumbering in crevices.
