Key West with Lost Reef Adventures

This trip was intended for the Vandenberg wreck but when we got there the current was ripping about 3 knots and it was unsafe to dive. So we altered the dive plan to a wreck and a reef.

Dive 1: Cayman Salvage Master Wreck. Depth 80 feet, viz about 20 feet, water temp 84 degrees, current strong. This wreck assisted in the Mariel Boat lift in 1980 and other notable missions. It was well encrusted with coral. Some areas were penetrable, if nothing else but to escape the current. Sightings included numerous fish schooling near the bow, arrow crab and clinging crab, ADA divers hanging on like flags on a pole.

Dive 2: Rock Key Reef. Depth 30 feet, viz 30 feet, water temp 87 degrees. Nice finger reef with numerous huge parrotfish, trunkfish, schooling yellowtails, several very large conch, appropriate for the Conch Republic!
