Blackwater drift night dive with Walkers Dive Charters

Nine Active Divers ventured out with Walkers Dive Charters from the Riviera Beach Marina for a chance to encounter "alien" life found during a blackwater dive.

Dive #1 Blackwater - Seas 1-2 feet, depth 540 to 140ft, 60 max depth, vis 0 feet, water 86 degrees, zero to mild current. The group headed out towards the open ocean with the sun slowly setting behind them until they reached a point with a depth of 540ft. Each diver jumped into the dark and quickly oriented themselves to the floating "Christmas tree" of lights that would be the beacon for them and the microscopic marine life that rose from the depths. The group merrily floated along as if in Outerspace, drifting close to 5 miles over the course of 2 hours. Searching at various depths, each diver had their own unique encounters, their view limited to the beams of their lights, some with cameras, others with magnifying glasses to take in the intricacies of the life teaming around them. Sightings included squid, juvenile mantis shrimp, juvenile shrimp, larval lion fish, tube anemone, bolinopsid comb jelly, moon jellies and others.

FULL doesn't always mean full.
When our dives fill up the original number of spaces booked, we can always ask for more space from the dive shop. And when the boats are at capacity you can always ask to be put on the waitlist. We always have cancellations, so many of our members on the waitlist get on the dive, sometimes the night before or the morning of the dive. So don't miss out.
