Dive
#1: Copenhagen Wreck: Seas:
2 feet and building, depth 24
feet, water 86
degrees, visibility 20
feet, current medium, but
building.
This was an
anchor dive on the popular
Copenhagen wreck (For a history
of the wreck, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_Copenhagen_(1898)).
Anchoring on the center of the
ship, we descended down
the mooring line and headed
east to the wreck. The current
was building, but still
swimmable. Once reaching the
wreck we headed south until
approaching the end, then
reversed direction and headed
north past the mooring. As in
most wrecks of this nature,
there were some tropicals,
grunts, and various other reef
fishes.. We ascended and
headed back to the AquaView.
it became apparent that the
current and the seas were
strengthening. After all
aboard, the AquaView relocated
north for our second dive.
Dive
#2: The Nursery: Seas:
3 to 5 feet and building, depth
20 feet, water 86
degrees, visibility 20
feet, current strong and
building.
This was a drift
dive along the ledge known as
the Nursery, so named for the
number of nurse sharks that make
this area their home. However,
they must have been making house
calls today day, as this diver
didn't see any. It could also go
by the name "Nursery" for
the number of juvenal fish one
encounters. There were numerous
tangs, grunts, spadefish,
trumpetfish, and porcupine fish.
After a leisurely 50 minute
drift, we ascended and made the
reentry while contending with
strong current and 4 to 6 foot
rolling waves. Nevertheless, it
was a good dive and a good time
had by all.
