Goliath
Grouper Dive in Palm
Beach with Walker’s Dive
Charters
I'm
happy to say this was a day
that proved the weather
reports wrong! The day was
beautiful; sunny and warm,
and the seas were calm and
clear. The Walker’s captain
and crew, Mike, Christina
and JP, took excellent care
of our divers, expertly
leading our dives and
feeding us fresh pineapples
after the dives!
Dive
1: Corridor
Wreck Trek: Ana Cecilia,
Mizpah, Amaryllis
Seas
2', Depth 90', water temp
88F, visibility 60', medium
current. Our
first dive took us along the
‘corridor’, three beautiful
wrecks lined up in a row. As
soon as we arrived at the
Ana Cecilia, we were greeted
at the bow by two huge
goliath groupers! The trek
was alive with many species
of tropical fish, barracudas
and another goliath grouper.
Some divers even spotted a
reef shark circling the
wrecks.
Dive
2: Mid-Reef
Seas 2', Depth 60-70', water
temp 88F, visibility 45-50',
slight current. It’s hard
to top three goliath groupers,
but mid-reef was beautiful as
well. There were schools of
jacks and grunts, parrot fish
and surgeons. We drifted along
serenely over shallow reef,
spotting green morays and
several lobsters peeking out
of their hiding spots. Towards
the end of the dive, our guide
Christina found a tiny
nudibranch - the Florida Regal
Sea Goddess!
It was a gorgeous day of
diving!

Tavernier
with Conch Republic
Divers
Dive
1: Davey Crocker Reef.
Seas
1 feet, depth 25
feet, vis 35 feet, water
85 degrees, slight
current. On a beautiful
afternoon in Tavernier, 10
divers set sail for a
wonderful day of diving
with Conch Republic
Divers. Our first stop was
the Davey Crocker Reef
which is frequently
compared to an aquarium
due to the abundance of
marine life present.
Sightings included large
schools, nurse sharks,
green moray eels some in
pairs hiding within the
reef, spotted rays,
and the regular cast of
reef fish.
Dive
2: Davis
Ledge. Seas
1 feet, depth 25
feet, vis 35 feet, water
85 degrees, slight
current. Divers
embarked on their second
dive after a quick surface
interval. This dive within
a preservation area
included sightings of many
large schools and was
teeming with moray eels
and crabs under almost
every ledge and in every
crevice. Highlight for
some was a turtle and a
small golden-tail moray as
photographed by Jean
Gruss.
