Sending Positive Vibes to Our Florida Friends
Our hearts are with everyone feeling the impact of Hurricane Helene. With club members spread across Florida, we’re hoping you and your loved ones are safe and sound!

"Shark Dive Redemption"
After Tropical Storm Debby threw some serious curveballs at the season’s first shark dive, we were buzzing with anticipation for round two! But, of course, in classic Florida fashion, another tropical troublemaker—Hurricane Helene—was looming. Fortunately, Helene stayed west, giving us a perfect sunny day with calm seas. The only catch? Visibility was a bit limited at just 20 feet. But hey, that didn’t stop us from having some jaw-dropping encounters!

Our first dive was at a spot called "Bucket." At first, we had one lone lemon shark hanging out, but soon we were joined by a couple of adolescent lemons that joined us and some spotted a Bull shark, casually checking us out from a distance. Things were heating up!
Next, we hit the Jupiter Wreck Trek with high hopes of meeting the legendary "Jennie," a 14-foot Tiger shark who’s known to hang out there. As we descended to the wreck, we were greeted by six massive Goliath groupers! Unfortunately, the strong current split the group, and just as we surfaced to regroup, "Jennie" made a quick cameo! Our excitement levels shot through the roof, so we immediately geared up for another go. But alas, Jennie decided she wasn’t up for an encore. Luckily, a few more lemon sharks and a curious Goliath grouper happily swam along with us for the final dive.
Every dive left us grinning from ear to ear, and it seems like even the sharks were smiling too!

Key Largo with Horizon Divers

The calm after the storm gave our divers clear skies and gentle seas. The visibility wasn’t great but the dives were smooth and relaxing. Captain Troy and DM Luke took excellent care of our divers.

Dive 1: Elbow Reef - The Hannah M Bell
Seas <1', Depth 25', water temp 89F, visibility 20', no current
Our first dive took us over the wreckage of the steamship Hannah M. Bell. The wreck attracts schools of snapper and grunts, rainbow and stoplight parrots. The usual characters were in attendance as well; sergeant majors, angelfish, butterflies and even a few trumpet fish.

Dive 2: Elbow Reef - The City of Washington
Seas >1', Depth 25', water temp 89F, visibility 20', slight current
We moved a short distance from the Hannah Bell over to the City of Washington, where some divers encountered a beautiful green sea turtle! On the wreck there were schools of surgeon fish, grunts and parrots. We were also treated to a rare sighting of schooling hog fish! We also saw a spotted moray, lots of healthy brain corals and damsel fishes.
It was a serene and relaxing day of diving!
