Goliath Grouper Dive with Jupiter Dive Center

We had a fun gang of 14 ADA divers Saturday afternoon at Jupiter Dive Center for what was expected to be a goliath grouper dive, and Captain Ryan didn't disappoint.

Dive 1: Wreck Trek-Our divemaster Matt lead us through a wreck trek starting at the Esso Bonaire (90 ft), where we were able to swim with over 20 goliath groupers. While the visibility was not the greatest, we were still able to find the Miss Jenny Barge where we were treated to more close encounters with goliath grouper and a friendly hawksbill turtle.

Most of us were able to complete the trek congregating around the Zion Train Tugboat, the final wreck in our trek. Upon completion, we were greeted by Amy who helped us all get back to our places and get ready for the next dive.

Dive 2: Scarface and Spadefish Ledges-Dodging storm clouds, we were able to get our second dive in at the Scarface and Spadefish ledges (70 ft). Water was still warm at 84 degrees, but vis was worse at about 20 ft. Despite the poor vis, we were able to see many Tropicals, cowfish and 3 moray eels. Many of us had an eventful safety stop. While dodging moon jellyfish, a lemon shark decided it needed a safety stop and hung out with us for the entire 3 minute safety stop and beyond. A remora peeled off of the shark and buzzed us while we all got back on the boat.
