The first thing you notice when you arrive in Dominica is how lush and mountainous it is. The colors of the flowers and shrubs against the green backdrop jump out at you as you pass by them. The island is known for natural beauty and its laid-back vibe. While the diving is very good there is also a lot of ECO tourism in the mountains. It’s the “newest” island in the Caribbean at a mere 26 million years old and has a lot of geothermal activity including hot springs, as well as a famous dive site known as Champagne Reef. It’s literally bubbling like a glass of champagne with gas and hot water from a geothermal vent located at the site. Dan and I went there in May of 2024 and you can review the details of that trip at ActiveDivers.org.
It's an exciting drive through mountainous roads for over an hour from the airport to the hotel. Dominica was in the news in 2017 when Hurricane Maria tore through it in 2017 as a category 5 storm and decimated the island, destroying 98% of the building roofs. Since then, a major rebuilding has been underway, including the hotel. The original ocean front section of the hotel has been completely refurbished and one section has been completely replaced (the Fort building). Also, there is a new on-site dive operation with two new boats. There is ample good diving in the marine park a short and pleasant boat ride away, and there is shore diving available with one of the easiest accesses I’ve ever seen. The Active Divers Package Includes:
As always, airfare is NOT included and the only airline with a direct connection is American Airlines, so I suggest you monitor the flight costs as soon as you make a deposit. There are three types of rooms available at the following rates:
Non-divers are $500 less Per Person, Double Occupancy.
This location has become very popular since the re-building was completed, and it was difficult to find a week where they could accommodate our group. I think it’s going to be a great way to start the 2025 International Trip season. And by the way, we are exploring another new location to end the season with, so stay tuned! Deposits for Dominica must be received by March 15,2025 and you can use the handy button below to make your deposit. Final payments must be paid by check made out to Active Divers Association by April 15, 2025 and sent to:
